The Mojave Audio MA-201 FET is a large diaphragm condenser microphone that has a field-effect transistor in it.  I believe that the make up of this microphone is quite similar to the MA-200 which has a tube instead of the FET, but I don't know much about the similarities beyond that.  This is definitely a microphone that you want to keep within the studio and not use for live shows or anything like that.

OVERALL OPINION

I've only used the Mojave Audio MA-201 FET two or three times for recording a live session in a recording studio and while it did the job, I wasn't all that impressed with its overall sound.  Don't get me wrong, it is a clear sounding microphone and will pick up a good amount of details but when compared with some of the other FET based microphones that I have used, this pales in comparison.  To be fair, this costs a fraction of most of those microphones, which is one of the main things that Mojave Audio prides itself on, but there is definitely a trade off in quality that comes along with that.  I can't say that I would recommend this microphone for anything in particular, but it does do the job that you would expect for a large-diaphragm condenser meaning that it is probably best suited to record vocals and acoustic instruments.  I'm sure that a lot of people will praise this microphone because of the price, but I think that this is the mics best feature as it gives home studio owners a chance to get a FET based microphone for a good price.  However, if you are simply looking for a great overall microphone I would recommend looking elsewhere as I think that you can get a lot more bang for your buck than this from other companies out there even if they aren't FET based mics.
