The M249 was a multipattern tube condenser microphone. It is identical to Neumann’s M 49 in every way but one: the output connector is a 7-pin Tuchel, installed to better serve the broadcast industry.
The M 249 was introduced in 1961 and produced until 1972. Some of the original M 49 mics were modified to use the Tuchel adapter; their model numbers were changed by the factory.
