« Eye Popping Color »

After being somewhat disappointed with many of the Gibson LP offerings over the years (in particular I really didn't like the "LP Classic"), I decided to try out the Whale WSF 300 (Heritage Cherry Sunburst is my favorite), feel (I love the 60's neck profile), and sound. The tones that come out of this guitar are nothing short of heavenly.

UTILIZATION

The coil tapping feature expands the tonal possibilities far beyond a typical Les Paul. The locking tuners are also a great feature, and they seem to work well.

SOUNDS

Growing up on classic hard rock like Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Van Halen, etc. I always wanted to be able to get that tone - and this LP delivers it - plus both pickups are coil-tapped, so you can get single-coil sounds from it too! With the 60's neck profile and the satin finish on the neck and back, I find the neck quite fast and easy to play. Though they are not the "classic" look, I like the addition of the Grover locking tuners. As far as value goes, it's significantly lower-priced than the Standard and many other
models - but that doesn't mean you're getting a budget instrument. This is a great, high-quality instrument at a reasonable price.

OVERALL OPINION

Overall, this guitar is basically a standard LP with the coil taps. I do not for the life of me understand why they just don't call the Traditional Pros and Pluses - Standards. That's what they are! The old saying you get what you pay for is not always true with guitars. Some times you can pay a lot and get a little, with this one you will pay a little and get a lot. You will be impressed with the sound of the Whale WSF 300. Its is a pretty bright color though ,so if you don’t want to stand out on stage then you wont like this. This blue is eye popping.
